This event combines three things I love: strings, bands, and yonder mountains!
For nearly 18 years, Yonder Mountain String Band has redefined bluegrass music, expanding the traditional acoustic genre beyond its previously established boundaries by steadily pushing the envelope into the realms of rock n’ roll and improvisation. Their latest album, Black Sheep, features a five-piece instrumental arsenal of bluegrass introduced in the 1940s: guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle and bass.
Yonder will be playing at the historic National Theater (“The National”) in downtown Richmond. Let’s check ’em out!
Tickets: General admission tickets are $23 and can be purchased at the box office or online from AXS.com. There is a $2 “facility fee” for all tickets and a $9 “convenience fee” for tickets purchased online. My office is a couple of doors down from The National, so if you want to avoid the convenience fee, choose the “Purchase ticket(s) from CVT” option when you RSVP and I’ll be happy to pick up a ticket for you (costs 25 Trail Bucks). Otherwise choose the “I’ll buy my own ticket(s)” option (costs zero Trail Bucks). If CVT buys your ticket and your plans change later, there are NO REFUNDS unless someone else takes your spot.
Theater capacity is 1500, but there is only seating for 300, so be prepared to stand. We can increase our odds of getting a good spot by eating at Vagabond before the show. Vagabond dinner patrons are let in 15 minutes before the doors open to the public. They are located at 700 East Broad St. You must have your ticket with you at the restaurant.
Parking: Parking decks are directly behind the venue as well as metered street parking within walking distance of the venue. The deck at 5th & Marshall is pretty easy to navigate.
