WHY SHIVER IN THE RIVER????
As a group, we spend a lot of time in and around the James River all year. Our city is blessed to have such a beautiful resource for hiking, biking, swimming, paddling, tubing and so much more. I am challenging EVERY member of CVT to participate or donate at some level to make this event a success. Shiver in the River is the coolest winter festival in RVA! You can clean up, walk/run, or jump in the James River — or do all three! You and your family can participate in as much or as little as you want, all for a great cause. Last year’s team raised $1960.00 to help keep Virginia Beautiful!
About the event
10:00 a.m. Community Cleanup
Shiver in the River will start with a cleanup along the banks of the James River and in the RVA communities. Picking up litter and recyclables is at the very heart of Keep Virginia Beautiful. The cleanup is free, open to all ages and you can earn incentives by creating a fundraising page.
12:00 Noon 5K Walk/Run
The 5K Walk/Run is a fun event for the whole family that will start and end at Historic Tredegar, and take in the beauty of the James River. Early Bird registration for adults is just $25 (children ages 5-12 accompanied by an adult, are $15). EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION ENDS DECEMBER 31, 2018. Online registration ends on Thursday, February 21st, but walk up registration will be available on the day of the event. When you create a fundraising page, your registration fee counts toward your incentive awards. Short sleeve T-shirts are included in the 5K registration. There are two registration options, one for adults 13+ years and one for children ages 5-12 years. Please note, race registration fees are not refundable.
1:30 p.m. The James River Jump
The highlight of Shiver in the River is the James River Jump! This fundraising Jump will take place along the chilly banks of the James near Historic Tredegar. A minimum of $75 must be raised to participate in the Jump and to receive a commemorative long sleeve T-shirt. Online registration ends on Thursday, February 21st, but walk up registration will be available on the day of the event. Must be 13 years and older to participate in the Jump. *Participation in the James River Jump does not mean you have to get completely wet, but you have the option to go in all the way. As long as you enter the River up to your ankles, you have participated. You must wear shoes. No diving.
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Winter Festival!
There will be music, beverages, food, heated tents and more! This is the Coolest Winter Festival in Richmond, and shows our love for Virginia! Numerous food trucks will be on site for food purchase. Soda, water and beer will be available for purchase. Water Tank will be on-site; bring your water bottle
Parking:
Street parking is available on a first come, first served basis.
Parking is available in the Federal Reserve lot on Bragg Street for $5
Street Closures:
Tredegar Street will be closed to traffic from 11:45 am until 1:15 pm.
What to bring with you:
Community Cleanup – Gloves, warm clothes, and sturdy shoes that you wouldn’t mind getting dirty. We will
provide water, bags and grabbers.
5K Walk/Run – Comfortable tennis shoes, warm layers. Strollers for young children are permitted but there
are stairs.
James River Jump – Bathing suit, towel, change of clothes and shoes. Two Changing Tents will be located on
site as you exit the river; one for women and one for men.

About the cause:
The mission at Keep Virginia Beautiful is to engage and unite Virginians to improve our natural and scenic environment through five impact areas: Litter Prevention, Recycling, Waste Reduction, Beautification, and Environmental Education.
