THIS IS A MODERATE/ 2 DAY/1 NIGHT BACKPACK TRIP.  CONFIDENCE ON YOUR ABILITIES AND HEALTH IS A MUST. This has moderate mileage and elevation, SO IT IS IDEAL FOR BEGINNERS WHO ARE SERIOUS ABOUT BACKPACKING.  IF YOU ARE A WILDERNESS BUFF , THIS one’s for you! I have done this hike several times and its very BEAUTIFUL. Our campsite is one of the best I’ve seen for a group. Located in front of a swimming hole with a waterfall in the backcountry. Second day we will crisscross a magical stream back to the Elkwallow Wayside , which has hot food, cold beer and CLEAN RESTROOMS.

DAY 1- Drive to trail head (this is a loop hike, no shuttling cars); hike 7 mi. with 1,200 feet of elevation climb AND 2,000 feet of descent. 1,600 feet of the descent is over 2 short miles. 2 STREAM CROSSINGS. Set up camp. Water source at campsite, but no privy. The group campsite is flat and very large. The best group site I’ve ever seen in the backcountry.

DAY 2 – Break camp, hike 5.6 miles with 1,500 feet of gradual ascent and 15+ stream crossings. Day 2 follows Jeremy’s Run stream. We also plan on having lunch at the Elkwallow Wayside. They have a grill and snack bar or you can bring your own lunch.

Those interested should be in good physical condition and have prior experience with primitive camping and hiking with a full pack.  Each hiker should be self-sufficient, meaning your own tent, sleeping bag, food, gear and supplies. You are welcome to share stoves, fuel, water treatment devices, etc., with others to save space and reduce weight. If you have any questions or wish to share gear, please let me know BEFORE the trip date.
