Forest Hill Park, which was once a quarry and an amusement park, features a recently restored lake and a network of over 3 miles of multiuse trails that provide access to surrounding neighborhoods and the James River. A partial wetland, wildlife can often be viewed in the park. Its sloping hills are popular for sledding in winter, and during the summer months, a farmer’s market is hosted in the park on Saturday mornings.
From Forest Hill Avenue, turn onto 42nd Street, drive four blocks, and turn right into the parking lot. Bear left and follow the parking lot all the way to the end. We usually meet at the picnic shelter in this area.
