Fairy Stone State Park is the largest of the original six Virginia state parks that opened on June 15, 1936, and is home to the mysterious “fairy stones”, or staurolite. Its 168-acre lake and many structures still in use were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The park has around 15 miles of hiking trails and is a short distance from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
