This hike is WAY off the beaten path. Awesome views. Narrow trails. Lots of rocks. Cycles up and down. We did the old Appalachian trial upper loop last year. We tried to get the lower loop done in one day during the summer but could not. Let’s finish this.
We will need to shuttle from the kid’s ski slopes and take two cars to the trailhead at “The PLUNGE” on Blackrock Circle. This is finishing up the half of the big loop around the resort which is close to Reid’s Gap and Humpback Rocks.
The route will take us down the Plunge for the awesome views, this time sans the biting giant gnats. We will pick up where we left off at the start of the Blackrock trail, then Peddlar’s Edge and finally Cedar Cliffs. This takes MUCH longer than the miles suggest. Your knees will get a workout. Expect rock scrambles.
The return time is approximate. If you have plans that require you to be back in Richmond at a specific time, please communicate this prior to carpooling with someone, or consider choosing a different hike.
Optional stop at Cardinal Point Winery on the way back if there is interest.
