It’s all about the blackberries!
Starting mid-summer, thickets of Shenandoah blackberries ripen in the open areas along the roads, trails and streams of the national park.
Blackberry Delight is an annual event that celebrates the sweet-tart fruit in all its glory. Skyland chefs create special blackberry-infused dishes combined with a full day of live music, dancing, local crafts, etc
Bring a lawn chair!!
Trip plan:
1. Drive to the Stony Man Trailhead in the Central District at mile 41.7 on Skyline Drive. From there, hike to Skyland and enjoy delicious blackberry buttermilk pancakes!
2. Burn off those calories with a hike on the Passamaquoddy Loop and taking the inside loop to the Stony Man summit.
3. If we make it back by 2:30pm, we can hit Skyland for a late lunch with their special for the festival, the Shenandoah Cuban…featuring sliced pork loin, Virginia ham, swiss cheese, blackberry mustard, baby arugula, and toasted jalapeño cornbread! If we don’t make it back by then, the Taproom is open with food and drinks and we can hang out at the event till decide time to go. Live music until 4:30pm.
