WHO’S ready for an overnight stay in Leesburg?
….Why? There’s a haunted manor to explore! Legend has it over one hundred years ago some guy, Jedidiah Carver, was found guilty of unorthodox acts of animal husbandry. (What is THAT??)
Ever body got all riled up ‘bout findin’ dead horses and some dogs, maybe a skint cat. A man’s gotta live, and if that means he has ta hack somethin’ up fer fun ever now and then, it ain’t right to judge a man fer that, is it?
But alas, for these crimes, his lands were seized and he and his family were cast out of the Town of Leesburg. Homeless, he moved his family to the caverns that lie beneath Paxton Manor, where they dwelled for many years. Things went well for The Carver family and they thrived and multiplied. Though as time went on things began to go wrong…
Your admission ticket will take you into the the Paxton Manor and its basement, Carnival of Souls. Paxton Manor is Northern Virginia’s only REAL Haunted House. It’s a brand new attraction full of creepy clowns and carnival carnage. This perilous expedition is NOT for the faint of heart. Join us, if you dare.
But wait! There’s more! There’s a whole day to enjoy one last hike before we meet our doom….AND if we survive the evening, let’s celebrate our life with one more hike Sunday morning as we journey back home.
Itinerary
Saturday: Mason Neck State Park. This will be a moderate 7.5 mile hike with a sandy beach and wetland marsh along the Bay View Trail, to meadow views and bird blinds. We’ll stop for lunch along the way.
After our hike, we have approx an hour drive to reach our hotel(s), where we can relax and unwind, shower, etc. Hotels are a bit higher in this area. I was able to secure a room in the $80s at Candlewood Suites Washington Dulles Sterling. The address is 45520 Severn Way, Sterling, VA 20166. You are welcome to choose your own option for lodging. Solo travelers may wish to share a room with a friend on the RSVP list – please make these arrangements on your own prior to the trip.
After some time to relax, we meet up for dinner at Leesburg Public House, 962 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. THEN, we shall head out to the Paxton Manor for our Haunted House tour.
Sunday: Burke Lake Park. This is an easy 5.6 mile hike, located approximately 45 minutes from Leesburg, with little to no elevation that primarily follows a path along Burke Lake.
Bring cash for Saturday lunch and dinner, Paxton Manor tour admission, and Sunday morning breakfast (if your hotel doesn’t provide). I’m trying to secure a group rate of $29 pp for the tour if we have 10+.
For those participating in the Hike for Kids event on Saturday, you are welcome to join us at around 7:00pm for dinner and the tour. If this is your preference, please indicate in the comments and arrange your own carpooling. The restaurant is about a 2.5-hour drive from downtown Richmond.
