High Bridge Trail State Park - Moran Trailhead
It’s been a long cold winter, and maybe you haven’t gotten out on the trail as much as you intended to. Have no fear, we will get back into mountain hiking shape in no time! This series of hikes is going to focus more on distance and building up a little speed rather than elevation. Thus, I came up with the clever name “Long Flat Hikes”.
The second LFH will explore 12ish miles of the High Bridge Trail near Farmville, VA. This will be a shuttle hike, meaning we will hike 12 miles one way starting in Moran where Rt. 610 intersects the trail. From there we will hike just over 12 miles and end in the town of Farmville. We will stop along the way for breaks and points of interest, the highlight being the High Bridge, which is more than 2,400 feet long and 125 feet above the Appomattox River. There is a small visitor center along the trail where we will also stop. There are pit toilets and picnic tables along the trail, but no drinking water.
After the hike we will celebrate our accomplishment at a restaurant in Farmville TBD.
