Who’s up for an autumn getaway??
‘Tis the season we’ve been waiting for; chilly nights, crisp days; crackling fires and leaves crunching beneath your feet. Oh and did I mention- abject terror??!! Yes, you can have all of this if you sign up for this hair-raising, sweater-wearing, marshmallow-toasting celebration in spooky but beautiful Weston, WV.
We will not be roughing it this weekend, as we will be staying at the beautiful Stonewall Jackson resort lodge on the shores of Lake Stonewall Jackson. The lodge boasts 3 different restaurants, an indoor/outdoor heated pool, miniature golf course, 13 miles of hiking trails, fire pit, spa on site and many other amenities.
If that isn’t enough to entice you, we’ll kick things up a notch. In addition to the breathtaking scenery of the resort, there is another more nefarious resident of this small town, namely the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. This National Historic landmark was a sanctuary for the mentally ill going back to the mid 1800s. Every year the Asylum makes the most of its naturally creepy atmosphere and invites the public to enter after dark for a haunted house experience like no other. On Saturday, October 5th there will be a fall festival on the grounds of the Asylum with food, crafts, costume contests, and more. This will also include opportunities to explore the Asylum by day via guided tour.
We can spend free time hiking, enjoying the lake, or exploring the town of Weston.
