This backpacking trip is for folks that have never done one before and would like to try it out in a low stress ‘wilderness’ environment.

Day 1: Make the one and a half hour drive from Mechanicsville to Lancaster County. From the Belle Isle kayak/canoe parking area we will hike for 5-6 miles to a primitive campsite. Check in is not guaranteed until 4PM, and I assume we will be there by 3PM. There is a privy, but no water source. We’ll set up camp for the evening and relax a bit. Folks that are interested can either rent a canoe or use own kayak for a couple mile paddle to the other side of the park on the Rappahannok or to check out another less primitive but remote site closer to the cars on the waters edge. Then it’s back to our campsites for the evening.

Day 2:

Check out is 1PM. I assume we will cook own breakfasts and explore the park grounds. There is no planned hike activity but kayaking or canoeing is available. Hiking to the other primitive sites are also possible if folks want. We can hike out long (5-6 miles or more), or do 0.5 miles back to cars. I am open to whatever folks want.

NN Burgers (Tappahannock) for lunch and Caret Cellars winery is available on the way back for folks that are interested.
