Every year in March, the town of Monterey hosts a festival celebrating all things maple. You may not know that Virginia has a maple party scene – I sure didn’t!

We will enjoy the scenic rolling hills as we drive over the mountains and through the woods- farms and animals and barn quilts abound – bring those cameras as there are many photo ops in this part of the state. Our itinerary will be relaxed, so if we see an irresistable roadside photo op we can most certainly pull off for an impromptu NatGeo meets Southern Living magazine photo shoot.

Once we arrive, we will spend several hours taking in the sugar soaked ambience. Hopefully by the time we are done our teeth will hurt and we’ll be ordering up insulin by the gallons- but we’ll have big sugar coated smiles on our faces for the ride back home.

This is a purely social event-no hiking involved- just come enjoy hanging out with your trail buddies. If you are new to the group this would be a great opportunity to get to know us before traipsing out into the woods alone with strangers!! There will be music, food, maple making demonstrations, and maple products aplenty. There is also a cidery in Monterey and a small restaurant if you get your fill of the sappy offerings.
